How To Grow Guide
A Dummy’s Guide on How to Grow Marijuana
Step 1: List of Required Ingredients
Quality marijuana seeds, a proper well-ventilated setup/location for marijuana growing, and have all the necessary supplies ready for each step. I will provide separate blog posts on everything from seeds, lighting, setup, and harvest time.
Step 2: Choose a Location to Grow Plants
Make sure you choose a a proper well-ventilated setup/location for marijuana growing.
Benefits of growing marijuana indoors: If you’re on a budget, growing indoors can be cheap and you have more control over the growth of your plants. Rooms that work best can be in your basement, a spare room, closet or garage.
Step 3: What to do with the Seeds?
- Germinate the seeds by placing them in water for 24 hours.
- Fill the 4-inch small pots with potting soil.
- Place one seed per pot in the center about a half-inch below soil and cover it.
Step 4: Ensure Proper Lighting
- Place the seeded pots under the CFL tube light. Keep the light on 24 hours/day. This does not need to be in the grow tent.
- During the next week or two you can begin to prepare/setup the grow tent and 300W LED light. (see blog post on setup) I would suggest keeping the lights on a 18/6 hrs schedule with the outlet timer.
Step 5: Water Plants and Transfer Pots
- Water the plants daily day and night to ensure the soil is constantly moist.
- In about two weeks the plants should be in the vegetative state and ready to be transferred to the bigger 5-gallon fabric pots and grow tent.
- Once they are in the 5-gallon fabric pots you can begin to water every few days using the nutrients recommended in the supply list. Please follow the schedule (on nutrient box) on which nutrients and the proper amount each week.
Step 6: Monitoring and Maintenance
- Monitor the plants for any signs of distress and address if necessary.
- This will vary depending on the seeds and strain but you will begin to notice little flowers/buds on the plants.
*If you used autoflower seeds you do not have to adjust the light schedule. If they are not autoflower seeds you can reduce the light schedule to 12/12 hrs to spark the flowering process.
- 6-8 Weeks > Begin to trim yellow or dead leaves off the plants to ensure they do not block any light. They key is to expose the “flowers/buds” to as much light as possible. Continue following the nutrient schedule during watering.
- 10-12 Weeks > Keep a close eye on the plants as they are flowering. You are looking at the pistils to see if the majority (80%) of them have turned light brown. During this time, you should also stop with the nutrients and provide only water to the plants. This process is known as flushing to ensure the plants taste good.
Step 7: Harvest Time
- Harvest Time! – the moment you have been waiting for…..the methods of harvesting vary from person to person. Some like to leave the leaves on and some trim everything but the buds. It’s all up to you. Once you cut down your plant hang them in the grow tent upside down on clothes hangers for about a week to dry.
- The buds should feel dry and you should be able to snap the smaller limbs. You are now ready to jar the weed and begin the curing process.
- Open up the jars daily for the next two to three weeks to cure the buds. This will create stronger and better tasting weed.
Best of luck and happy growing!
